Press Release

Dear Crossroads College Preparatory School Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Crossroads College Preparatory School, it is my great pleasure to announce that on April 2, 2011, the Board appointed Clark Daggett as the new Head of School, effective July 1, 2011.  The Board’s unanimous decision to select Clark followed the strong recommendation of the Search Committee, which cited a compelling match between the desired criteria established by the Committee and Clark’s experience, interest, and skills.

Clark has served as the Head of the Cape Cod Academy, a K-12 independent school in Osterville, Massachusetts, for the past five years.

Previously, Clark served as associate head of Cape Cod Academy for 12 years, including one year as the Acting Head.  In his leadership roles, Clark was instrumental in seeing the school’s enrollment more than double, overseeing sizeable increases in the school’s Annual Fund, and supporting more than $16 million in campus improvements.  With a career in independent schools spanning three decades, Clark has served as teacher, coach, admissions director, division head, director of development, associate head, and head of school.

Clark has also led regional accrediting efforts, presented at national conferences and workshops (where he shared his expertise on topics such as establishing programs for young alums and developing talent in organizations), and contributed to organizational newsletters and program committees.

Clark earned his master’s degree from Drew University and his bachelor’s from The Johns Hopkins University.  His wife Claudia serves as the Executive Director for the Elementary School Heads Association.

As part of passing the baton to Clark, Billy Handmaker will assist in a smooth leadership transition reflecting the core values of the special culture of Crossroads College Preparatory School.  We are mindful of the importance of this decision for the community after 15 years of exceptional leadership by Billy that resulted in enhanced academics, increased enrollment, and greatly expanded and improved facilities that earned national recognition for Crossroads College Prep.

Clark’s appointment concludes an extensive national search assisted by Dr. Richard Jung of Educational Access Strategies, LLC, Bethesda, Maryland and Ms. Mary Kesler of The Education Group, Dallas, Texas.  The Search Committee was composed of thirteen board members, staff, parents, and community representatives.  The Search Committee was assisted by three advisory committees: The Parent/Faculty Advisory Committee, The Student Committee, and the Friends of Crossroads College Prep Committee.  On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to express our appreciation for all of the diligent efforts that went into helping us successfully complete our most vital responsibility, the selection of our Head of School.

Clark will visit Crossroads College Prep several times in the next three months and we look forward to introducing you.  Please join us in welcoming Clark and Claudia Daggett to the Crossroads College Prep community.

Board Chair,
